  About the bird species: Black-winged Lovebird The Black-winged-lovebird is also known as the Abyssinian lovebird. It is about 16.5 cm (6.5 inches) long, making it the largest of the  lovebird  genus, a group of small parrots. The adult male is easily identified by its red forehead, and the adult female by its all-green body. Both the male and female black-winged lovebirds are mostly green, and only the adult male black-winged lovebird has a red forehead and a ring of red feathers around its eyes. The tail is black tipped and feathers below the tail show a yellowish colour. The rump and feathers above the tail are light green. In the male, feathers under the wing are typically black while in the female, the feathers under the wing are typically greenish or brownish black. Both genders have a red beak and grey feet.   The bird species: Black masked Lovebird Black masked Lovebird is a rare species restricted to southwest of Zambia. The scientific name is Agapornis Nigrigenis. It is 14 cm (5.5 in) in length, with mostly green plumage, reddish-brown forehead and forecrown, brownish-black cheeks and throat, orange bib below the throat which fades to yellowish-green, white eye-rings and grey feet. Adult has bright red beak, while juvenile’s is similar but with a more orange bill; has a blunt beak compared to Peach Faced Lovebirds . It has been listed down on the red list as the species is struggling to survive due to habitat loss. It weighs 42 grams, has a wingspan of 8-9 cm. This species is very territorial. Peach-faced Lovebirds are known to bond with other love bird species and other bird species, though with peach-faced lovebirds they are most notorious and have aggressive behavior. They weigh 55 grams and are about 17 cm to 18 cm from their head to the tip of their tail. Their wingspan is 9 cm for each wing. They have the sharpest beak among all love birds and a narrow and short tail. They have grey feet. It’s an ancestral habit of these birds to protect themselves by biting rather than flying. They love shredding a lot more than other smaller parrots such as budgies and small conures. They are scientifically called “ Agapornis Roseicollis ”.
